Principal's Welcome
What is it that has earned The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School its reputation for excellence in the education of girls, a reputation it has enjoyed for over 70 years? First and foremost it is its students – girls who are highly motivated and who share a common commitment to academic success and personal achievement. The student community is marked by a wealth of talent, a rich and varied cultural and social mix, and a spirit of acceptance and mutual respect.
The answer also lies in the ethos of a school where parents, staff and students, both past and present, share the belief that Potens Sui or ‘mastery of self and of one’s destiny’ can be a reality. They share a commitment to providing a caring and challenging environment where creativity and individuality are valued, where responsibility for self and others go hand in hand and where all-round development of the student is a priority.
The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School is enriched by living tradition. Tradition which goes back to the school’s origins as The Continuation School in 1905. Tradition which comes alive on a daily basis in the House activities, in the singing of the Latin song at School Assembly, in the portraits which hang in the foyer, and in the wearing of the Pallas Athene badge with its Potens Sui motto.
In the twenty-first century, the Mac.Rob community remains committed to enhancing the school’s long-held reputation for excellence and to ensuring that the girls in its care are equipped to face the challenges of a fast changing and increasingly complex world and become the leaders of the Australian society of the future.
Our school has completed a building and refurbishment program costing in excess of $10 million. The teaching and learning environment is now outstanding and with a skilled and dedicated staff and a vast range of core and co-curricula programs, the opportunities for girls to succeed academically, and to enhance their personal growth, are extensive.
We are committed to:
- Engendering a love of learning
- Offering an education based on liberal-democratic values
- Achieving unparalleled academic success
- Providing a challenging, tolerant and supportive environment
- Fostering confidence, responsibility and self-discipline
- Cultivating integrity and mutual respect
- Developing effective leadership skills
- Meeting the challenges of the future while respecting the past
These core values genuinely permeate the life of the school and have significant impact on the educational experience and achievement of students.
We welcome your interest in our school, which has a long and proud tradition of providing outstanding education for young women.
