The aim of the Mac.Rob SRC in 2009 is to improve the infrastructure, efficiency and accessibility of the SRC itself, providing girls with a unique leadership opportunity and a framework to express their ideas and shape the school, making it a more enjoyable place to be for everyone.
The Student Representative Council at Mac.Rob is a proud and long-running tradition whereby students can have their voices heard and see their ideas implemented in a concrete way throughout the school. The Council works by having a student representative within each class, two executives per year level and an executive council of the Treasurer, General Secretary and the SRC President and Vice-President.
The form representatives work closely with the 25 girls of their class, representing their ideas and concerns at general meetings, communicating news and ideas to and from their class every Thursday form assembly and relaying information at fortnightly SRC General Meetings held during Friday lunchtimes. The year level executives act as year level presidents; organising and co-ordinating events within the year level and scheduling extra meetings where appropriate. The position of Treasurer is decided by interview and is in charge of SRC finances and expenses, working with the school bursar and SRC budget. The position of General Secretary, also decided by interview, posts meeting agendas, takes meeting minutes, posts bulletin notices, ensures meetings do not run over time and posts meeting minutes on the SRC notice-board.
The SRC Vice-President is responsible for organising and chairing SRC general and executive committee meetings and meeting with the Leadership Coordinator in conjunction with the SRC President and supporting the SRC President. The SRC President is responsible for representing SRC at assembly and other events, organising and chairing SRC general and executive committee meetings, co-ordinating inter-school meetings and meeting with the Leadership Coordinator in conjunction with the SRC Vice-President.
The SRC is run entirely by the students, with the support of the Leadership Co-ordinator. The SRC plans the SRC conference, Multicultural week and Health week as well as the Senior School Cup competition with Melbourne High School. Each year level also organises an event for their year level, such as the year 11 formal, the year 10 last day activities and the year 12 t-shirts and hoodies.
Multicultural week is a week-long celebration of multiculturalism at Mac.Rob, incorporating a General Assembly run by the students, performances and activities organised by the year level executives and a multicultural food day on the Wednesday.
Health week is a week-long event designed to increase health awareness, with a different focus each year. This includes a General Assembly run by the students, as well as activities, information sessions and give-aways throughout the week.
The Senior School cup is a relatively new structured competition with Melbourne High School, which includes lunchtime sporting and academic competitions at both schools throughout the year and the presentation of a winner’s cup at the end of the competition.
This year, we want to be more than just the voice of the students we want to be their hopes, their aspirations and their success.
