Entering Mac.Rob in the Senior School

Mac.Rob students’ success is the teamwork between staff and students. Individual attention is the norm, and our staff work very hard to deliver this.

The Careers Counsellor works with every Year 12 student to help plan and prepare for tertiary course choice.

What are our aims?

  • To treat every student as an individual
  • To create a supportive environment in which students can maximise their academic success in conjunction with a balanced life
  • To help our students make a transition to womanhood, in which they can take responsibility for their actions
  • To encourage students to develop their personal potential to the full
  • To assist students to make a successful transition to tertiary study, beyond VCE

Our Senior School Curriculum

Students are able to choose subjects that are tailored to suit their specific interests, from a wide range of options. Mac.Rob offers a number of studies that are less commonly found in schools: English Language, History: Renaissance Italy, Philosophy, Music Performance: Solo, Environmental Science, and International Studies and National Politics.

We also offer a wide range of VET studies, and Mac.Rob has students taking the relatively new VCAL: The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

We encourage our Year 11s to gain some experience of Year 12 study. Over 90% of Year 11s take the opportunity to study one Year 12 subject, and about one third are able to take two Year 12 level subjects. This is not based on student choice alone – we expect girls to show that they can manage this level of study while in Middle School. We aim to have students construct a course that is challenging but also manageable – we try to maximise student success.

High achieving Year 12 students are also able to include a first year university study in their course – this contributes to their final ENTER, and also contributes to an undergraduate course.

The 2010 -2011 Senior School Handbook contains the curriculum offered at a VCE level.

Senior students in the co-curricular program

We expect our senior students to provide leadership for the rest of the school. They do this by taking on many leadership positions in the school, from School and House Captains to SRC, clubs and sport.

We emphasise the very strong correlation between co-curricular participation and high academic achievement – usually our very best students are all rounders, leading a very balanced life with lots of opportunity to combine work, leisure and personal growth.

We actively encourage girls to do more than simply study – it helps with organisational skills, it refreshes students for study, and gives them a chance to develop the full range of their abilities and interests.

Entering Mac.Rob in the Senior School

Mac.Rob takes in quite a number of new students at Senior School level. Some of these students have gone on to become student leaders, such as House Captains, Form Captains, SRC Representatives and Portfolio Captains.

Year 11 is probably the best time to come, because there is a greater opportunity to settle into the life of the school at the same time as managing an effective study program.
