Russell passed away peacefully at his home on Friday at 4.30pm, surrounded by his family (as was his wish). Margaret and I visited Russell on Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Werribee and he was in good spirits. We conveyed the good wishes of staff and students and gave Russell the gold medal for Coach won by the Badminton Team at the State Championship earlier in the week. Russell spoke of his love of Mac.Rob and the enjoyment he had in his teaching career.

Russell came to Australia from New Zealand in 1976 and commenced teaching at Mac.Rob in 1991. Previous to this Russell taught at Sunshine High School, Noble Park High School, East Doncaster Higher School and Highvale High School. Russell taught in the Science and Humanities faculty and held the position of Sports Coordinator and was a long term supporter and contributor to The Adelaide Exchange. Russell was passionate about the teaching of sport, especially Badminton, and he coached many teams whilst at Mac.Rob.

As per his wishes, Russell’s body will be transported back to New Zealand for his funeral. A simple Memorial Service will be held at Mac.Rob to remember his life and contribution to Mac.Rob.
