Debating & Public Speaking Update - Term 2, 2025

Semester 1 has been ~spicy~ to say the least!

Across all four grades, Mac.Rob has seen a plethora of winning scores for the past three rounds. Students have been participating so eagerly in Debating & Public Speaking, and we’d like to take a moment to congratulate our teams for their stunning successes over this year. But the crackling heat from our many, many victories, it causes us to ponder…should life be spicy? Should life be so sizzling hot so that we can enjoy every moment, or should it be mellow and mild, so that we can continue to systematically win debates?

Scrap all this mediocrity. Let’s spice it up!

Sound effects, costumes, chaos. This was the unforgettable motto of our Week 6 Teacher vs Student debate on the topic: That life should be ‘spicy’. Mr Schaffner, Ms Douglas, Dr McPherson formed the affirmative team, agreeing with this statement. Our negative team constituted of students Varada L, Meghna Sinu J, and Keira A. There were perfect puns, astonishing revelations and the intense rivalry was heated.

But the ultimate win was handed to… the student team! See below for an image of our winners - go students!

Special shout-outs to Dr McPherson with her jaw-dropping confession, and congratulations to Keira who won the award for ‘spiciest jalapeno’, plus a great thank you to the students and teachers who came and watched the debate at lunchtime, laughing at sound effects and supporting our excellent speakers. And finally, congratulations to DPS Cabinet and our DPS teachers for making this heated event come to life! If you’d like to (re)watch this event for yourself, you’ll find the link here.

But hang on Mac.Rob… that’s not all! This year still has plenty of exciting opportunities (including some fiery model UNs) yet to come, fostering inter-school connections between Mac.Rob, MGC, MGGS and more… but that’s a story for next time.

Stay spicy!
