Library Update | What’s New in April.

What’s New in the Library.

Mr. Chris Dempsey’s Book Recommendations display.

Term 1 will be over by the time you are reading this, and we will be heading into the holidays for time and space to rest and catch up with family and friends, which includes reading books!

In the library for Term 1, we have:

  • Purchased and catalogued almost 600 resources for the collection.

  • Loaned over 2000 resources to students.

  • Started updating our Library Libguide, as the school has changed from Harvard Referencing system to APA (American Psychological Association) Referencing system. This is only when teachers request their classes to do Reference lists/Bibliographies.

  • Booked in author and qualified lawyer, Alice Pung for an author talk on Wednesday, May 20th. Alice is an ex-Mac.Rob student and successful OAM author of several memoirs, and young adult novels. She is an adjunct professor at RMIT in the School of Media and Communication. This was organised because the Mac.Reads student group asked the library if we could organise an author for them in the memoirs genre. Further consultation with the English department meant we could organise Alice for Year 11 English Creative Writing students.

  • Created a new Mac.Rob Reading competition for the Year 9s which we are still ironing out the details and are working towards the launch of this in early Term 2.

  • We have reached out to the student Anime Club to ask them for suggestions and requests to continue building the Manga genre in the library which they have been most grateful for the collaboration.

  • Made preparations to create a new genre in the Fiction collection: Supernatural

  • Introduced the Year 9s to the library through their English classes visiting us, or the official induction we presented to them in assemblies in their camp week.

Created multiple library displays for International Women’s Day, Books to Movies, New books, Historical Romance, and a display of recommended reads from the Head of English, Mr Chris Dempsey.

We wish you a safe holiday break and happy reading from the Mac.Rob Librarians.
