Social Justice Update | April, 2026.

Social Justice is all about recognising the inequality in our world and taking meaningful action towards this. Within our Mac.Rob community, the Social Justice portfolio aims to turn these values into impact and empower students to support important causes, raise awareness as well as contribute to positive change both locally and globally.

We kicked off the year with our weekly bakestalls, starting with our Cabinet Bakestall in Week 7! It has been lovely to see the school community come along for sweet treats in order to support our chosen charities for the year. This term, we are raising money for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), a charity dedicated to saving lives, protecting those who have been forced to flee conflict or persecution and helping everyone build a better future; something we believe is an extremely important mission right now.

Red Cross Calling.

On Friday, March 27th, 40 Mac.Rob students headed over to South Melbourne Market to participate in Red Cross Calling, fundraising on behalf of Red Cross Australia. The Red Cross is a large non-profit humanitarian organisation, dedicated to helping out people during their most difficult circumstances as well as assisting communities with emergency support, blood donations and immigration. The market was full of energy, with busy stalls, constant movement and a stream of generous locals (including some Palladians!) stopping by to have a chat. It was such a different experience from being at school, being able to step into the wider community and see first hand how giving people can be. By the end of it all, we are incredibly proud to have been able to raise $1171.05 in donations.

“It was great that my first time going to South Melbourne Market was to help people.” - Natalie T, Year 9

“Red Cross Calling was a beautiful, enriching experience that allowed us, as students, to simultaneously volunteer to such a humanitarian organisation, and develop our interpersonal skills as we communicated with various, generous members of the public.” - Nandini S, Year 12

Relay4Life.

The following day, many dedicated Mac.Robbians came along to Relay4Life to support Cancer Council Australia in their mission to fund major cancer research programs, as well as provide practical, emotional support services to patients and families.

From the moment we arrived, we could feel the strong sense of community radiating off all the teams from all over Melbourne coming together to fundraise. Whether it be the karaoke sessions, or dress-up competitions, the community spirit was truly a highlight of the event!

Throughout the course of the event, people were constantly walking, running or cheering each other on and we are so thankful for everyone who participated! In the end, the Mac.Rob team was fortunate enough to be able to raise $776 dollars, and ran over 100 hundred relay laps! Although what truly stood out most was the uplifting, supportive environment and incredibly inspiring resilience of the community.

“Despite the gruelling rain I am so happy to have participated at Relay4Life to support a great cause, and be a part of this wonderful community.” - Jasmine N, Year 12

On behalf of the Social Justice team, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has participated, whether that be buying brownies, walking laps or helping us shake tins! It is the support of the school community that has helped make our events truly successful, and reminds us of the power we have when we come together to support causes we believe in.

We can’t wait to see how our Mac.Rob community continues to get involved with Social Justice in Term 2!
