Sports At Mac.Rob | June Update.
House Athletics
On Wednesday, May 13th, the sun had come out along with the Mac.Robbians to Lakeside Stadium for a day filled with House spirit, pride, and sportsmanship; the annual House Athletics Carnival.
The House parades jumpstarted the thrilling day, with vibrant “Myths & Legends”-themed costumes decorating the track, paired with the sound of the students’ House chants echoing throughout the stadium, creating an exciting atmosphere to begin the day.
This excitement continued as students participated in a variety of track and field events. From javelin to the 100m sprints, smiles were seen and words of encouragement were heard all throughout the day.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this thrilling day, whether by winning an event, setting a personal best, participating, or even cheering on friends or fellow House members on the sidelines. We thank everybody for contributing and making this day a memorable experience for the books.
We would also like to give an honourable mention to our 2026 Age Group Champions:
14 Years: Eva T
15 Years: Chelsea R
16 Years: Weylen T
17 Years: Tricia S
18 Years: Athanasia P
The day stood as a perfect example of Mac.Rob’s value of community with everyone coming together for a day of competition, yet still displaying Mac.Rob’s known support and energy. We hope everyone had a fantastic day, and congrats to Nereids for winning the Carnival and securing their third House victory of the year!
Commonwealth Games
At the beginning of Term 2, the Sports Team organised a series of games inspired by the Commonwealth Games. Students were given the opportunity to create teams with their peers, as well as teachers, and compete in an exciting volleyball tournament.
The participating teams represented a variety of Commonwealth nations including Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Jamaica, Fiji, India and Malaysia. Throughout the weeks, teams competed against one another in a series of friendly, yet competitive matches.
One of the highlights of the tournament aside from the amazing rallies, spikes and dives, was the enthusiastic support from the school community. Matches were held during lunchtime, allowing students and teachers to gather around the gym and watch the games. Many students came along to cheer for their friends and classmates, creating a supportive and lively atmosphere filled with excitement, encouragement and school spirit.
By the end of the tournament, Fiji and India advanced to the grand final. Both teams displayed excellent teamwork, skills and determination, creating a thrilling match to watch. In the end, Fiji emerged victorious, bringing the tournament to a memorable conclusion!
This volleyball tournament was a fantastic success, providing students with an opportunity to stay active, build friendships and celebrate teamwork and sportsmanship. The Sports Team would like to thank everyone who participated and supported the event.

Senior Basketball
On Monday, May 18th, the Mac.Rob Senior Basketball teams headed to Dandenong for a full day of competition and teamwork. Even with assessments later that week, everyone came ready to play with enthusiasm and determination.
Across all games, both teams demonstrated great effort, sportsmanship, and skill. We worked well together as teams, and when one team wasn't playing, they were on the sidelines cheering on the other team. Our fast transitions and strong defensive and offensive pressure showed, with the A team placing overall second in the competition, where we lost only to Mentone Girls Secondary College, and tying with Albert Park College. The B team also performed strongly, taking on a number of highly competitive teams and never backing down from the challenge.
While the day was filled with competition, it was an amazing opportunity to represent Mac.Rob’s Senior Basketball team.

Senior Table Tennis
On Monday, May 18th, the Senior Table Tennis Team, accompanied by Mr Giuffrida, headed out to MSAC to compete in the Senior Table Tennis Beachside competition. Going into the day, we were excited to represent Mac.Rob and take on other schools.
Throughout the day, each player gave their best effort, demonstrating teamwork and sportsmanship across both singles and doubles matches. We supported one another through each game and kept spirits high, and we were proud to come away with the win.
One of the highlights of the day was also spending time with the Senior Badminton Team, who were competing at the same venue. Between matches, we were able to cheer each other on and dabble in the other sport which made the day feel even more fun and memorable.
Overall, the day was an extremely enjoyable and successful experience, and we are excited to take on regionals next!

Intermediate Netball
On Wednesday, May 27th, the Intermediate Netball Teams travelled to the Gloria Pyke Netball Facility in Dandenong to compete against several other schools in the Bayside Inter-School Sports Competition. Players who competed on the outdoor courts were met with rainy and windy conditions throughout the day.
Across the competition, we played a total of five games. While we experienced both wins and losses, the team showed great determination and sportsmanship in every match. Everyone gave their best effort, worked well together, and most importantly, enjoyed playing a sport they love.
At the end of the day, we finished in third place, narrowly missing out on a finals position. Despite this, the team remained positive and proud of their efforts, making it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved.

Senior Badminton
On May 18th, Mac.Rob’s Senior Badminton Teams made their way to our neighbouring sports facilities, MSAC, to compete in the Division competition accompanied by Mr. Sloan and Ms. Ly.
The day started off with some confusion due to 4 out of the 8 teams not showing up to the competition, but nevertheless, our teams still played to the best of our abilities. Both teams managed to progress through the day without any losses at all, often conceding minimal points, highlighting the teams’ individual skills and also teamwork, especially in doubles.
Not only because the competition reflected in our favour, everyone had great fun the entire day because we had this opportunity to meet new people, support each other in a friendly competitive environment and we were able to play this sport that we all enjoy. A well-deserved congratulations is due for everyone who played and a heartfelt thanks for both Mr. Sloan and Ms. Ly who helped keep the day running smoothly!
The A-Team is now working hard to prepare for Regionals, which will be on July 22nd. Let’s keep the winning streak going!

Senior Soccer
On Monday, May 18th, the Senior Soccer Team made their way to Caulfield Park, accompanied by Mr. Stevens. We played in our pool of four teams (Albert Park, Mentone, Yavneh, and us!) to compete in the Senior Soccer Division. Our team put up a great fight winning three games out of four, losing narrowly against Albert Park. Although we were not able to move on, we ended the day in high spirits and lots of laughter!
