Veritas Writing Competition 2025.
Earlier this year, in Term 2, Veritas Club launched its very first school-wide writing competition - an opportunity for students across all Year levels to write boldly, think critically, and voice their hearts with courage.
Veritas is Mac.Rob’s club for writing, philosophy, critical inquiry, and the liberal arts. At its heart, it exists to empower Mac.Rob students to challenge ideas, ask the hard questions, and develop the kind of voice that can shape the world around them. We run discussion sessions, writing challenges, and community-wide initiatives, all with one mission: to show Mac.Robbians that their voice matters in a world where a girl’s voice has been suppressed for centuries. Veritas Club aims to advocate for Mac.Robbians to take back that power to create something beautiful of their own.
The Veritas Writing Competition was born from that mission. Students were invited to submit pieces in one of four categories - creative, poetry, argumentative, or journalistic - with no prompts, just the space to write what meant something to them. The response was incredible. From passionate poems to powerful essays, students used their voices with clarity, depth, originality, grace, and most important of all, heart.
As someone who founded Veritas with the hope of giving Mac.Rob students more room to be brave with their ideas, it was genuinely moving to see the community come alive with stories and arguments that were completely their own. In a school as high-achieving as Mac.Rob, it’s easy to fall into the rhythm and rigidity of assessments and expectations - but this competition reminded us of the beauty of writing without rules, for nothing but meaning.
More than a competition, it was a celebration of expression, courage, and the power of voice and heart.
