CHES Model UN.

This year, the CHES Model UN theme, “Sustainable Cities and Communities: Toward a Resilient Future,” highlighted the rapid pace of urbanization and the urgent need to design cities that mitigate, rather than contribute to, climate change. As populations continue to grow and urban areas expand, the challenges associated with resource management, infrastructure, and environmental impact become increasingly complex.

The conference encouraged delegates to think critically about how cities can be developed and managed in ways that reduce carbon emissions, promote efficient use of resources, and ensure long-term sustainability.

A central focus of the discussions was the importance of intentional and forward-thinking urban planning that balances economic development with environmental responsibility. This includes investing in renewable energy, improving public transportation systems, creating green spaces, and implementing policies that reduce pollution and waste.

At the same time, the theme emphasized that sustainability is not only about protecting the environment, but also about enhancing the quality of life for all residents by ensuring access to housing, healthcare, and equitable opportunities.

Through our participation in the conference, we broadened our perspectives by engaging with a wide range of viewpoints and policy approaches from different countries. We developed a deeper understanding of how national interests, economic priorities, and geographic realities influence each nation’s strategy toward sustainable development.

Overall, the experience strengthened our ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and approach global challenges with greater awareness and nuance.
