ICT Conference & Expo.

On Thursday, August 28th, pioneering tech-industry professionals and student-led organizations gathered in our school theatre and hall for the ICT Conference & Expo. Equipped with knowledge, experiences and interactive activities, they immersed students in the world of ICT through open discussion and their own projects. Spearheaded by the ICT Captains and Committee, the event brought together passionate female students to celebrate, explore and be inspired by the diverse opportunities the tech field has to offer.

We were thrilled to host the Girls Programming Network and Robogals from the University of Melbourne, both of whom share our mission to empower Women in STEM. The representatives gave dynamic and intriguing presentations showcasing their passions in fields such as data science, computer engineering and physics. Students at the event resonated deeply with their journey, finding inspiration to forge their own unique paths in technology.

Of course, this day couldn’t have happened without the support and involvement of the students that came. During the conference, it was really great seeing the student body actively engage through questions and comments, which were warmly welcomed by the speakers. All the presentations were met positively with interest, especially the alumni debate, where students, past and present, bonded over shared experiences and laughs. At lunch, plenty of students brought their friends to the hall for the ICT Expo, where they got the chance to talk with university representatives and engage in tech-related activities such as Mario Kart and Monkeytype.

What we found most rewarding about the whole experience was the connections we made with partners such as GPN and Robogals, who introduced unique entryways into the techsphere to the Mac.Rob community! We can say for certain that we’ve reached our technology-loving audience with the ICT Conference and Expo.

Overall, the ICT Conference & Expo was a wonderful opportunity to gather the community for some memorable moments and we believe that the ICT Committee has been able to truly show what technology is capable of to all students with different levels of interest.

Tetris Tournament.

On Wednesday, July 2nd, Mac.Rob’s ICT Committee held the annual Tetris Tournament. But this wasn’t just any other Hunger Games-themed Tetris Tournament, it was the Quarter Quell 2025!

In only a span of 54 minutes, 27 tributes battled head to head in the intense Tetris arena. The first round consisted of 4 games with several tributes from each Distinct (9, 10, 11 and 12). They powered through the tributes, however they would have to face their defeat. As the rounds progressed, some tributes survived and some unfortunately didn’t make it.

During the final rounds, the surviving tributes went face to face smashing lines of blocks, performing intricate T-spins and creating garbage for tributes of different districts.

The very last round consisted of the top tributes from each district:

  • District 9: Meagan T

  • District 10: Sue H J

  • District 11: Leah C

  • District 12: Katrine L

Sweat dripped down their faces as they powered through each block, clearing more and more lines of code. With Sulbing vouchers and a Logitech POPKEYS keyboard on the line, ultimately, all but one was left…

👑 KATRINE L 👑 from District 12!

There were also some guest tributes who used their speedy fingers to defeat other tributes:

  • Mr Sloan

  • Mr Schaffner

Altogether, the energy from all the tributes and the district members blew the roof of the Lakeside building! This event wouldn’t have been such a success without them! Through all the support from the whole school community, this really demonstrates how we as Mac.Rob can be involved with the rapidly growing world of ICT and technology.

A big thank you to Arushi and Ihaana and the rest of the ICT Committee, Simon and Chris (ICT Specialists), and Ms Williams for their help in organising and making this happen!
