Library Update | Term 2, 2025

New wellbeing reading and resources.

We’re pleased to announce that an exciting new collaboration between the Library and Mac.Rob’s Head of Student Counselling, Ms. Katrina Adams, began this Term. Discussions have occurred, decisions have been made, and the first of many new books about mental health and personal growth have been purchased in order to provide updated, new resources for students to borrow!

We are working closely with Katrina and her team to keep students informed about the many ways they can access information and resources to help maintain their physical and mental health, and to let them know we are all here to support them to the best of our ability.

Expanding resources through community support.

In the second half of Term 2, we collaborated with Mr. Nikhil Hendricks, Maths teacher and director of this year's musical, to make a list of his best book recommendations. His choices are now on display in the library for everyone to borrow.

Here is the link to his reading suggestions that we currently have in the library collection, and there are a few more we’ve ordered that will soon be added.

We will gather more staff reading recommendations in Semester 2, and students are welcome to suggest staff they would like us to approach to get their book suggestions. They can let us know via the Library email or come by the Library desk to chat to us!

Holiday borrowing.

Students and staff are encouraged to borrow from the Library all the time, not just for the holidays. They are encouraged to request books and to provide recommendations for the library collection.

It is necessary to take breaks from study and take time out, and some students love to read for leisure, which increases their literacy skills and builds vocabulary, and helps them in both their future careers and in life in general.

A reminder that students and staff can borrow eBooks from our Wheelers ePlatform while they are on holiday (or any time). A reminder that they can also access databases for their research that we subscribe to through our Libguide:

  • JSTOR.

  • The Age Library Edition.

  • ATAR Notes Online.
Note: ATAR Notes Online is only for Year 11 and 12 students. If students are unable to access ATAR Notes Online, please contact us and we can help you.

  • Clickview.

Looking ahead: Term 3 author talk for Book Week.

Book Week is in Term 3, and we have been able to book Dr Sarah Arachchi, who recently released her book, Brown. Female. Doctor., which we currently have in our collection (with more copies on the way). Sarah will be visiting Mac.Rob to speak to students and staff at lunchtime on Tuesday, August 19th.

Dr. Arachchi is currently working as a Paediatrician at the Victorian Children’s Clinic, and in the emergency department at Monash Children’s Hospital. She graduated from Medicine with Honours at Monash University, then completed her training at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Children’s Hospital, and The Mercy Hospital for Women.

We are extremely excited for Dr. Arachchi to join us as our guest for Book Week, and we’re in the process of organising students to host the Q & A with her on August 19th.
