Library Update | Term 2, 2025
Reconciliation Week reading.
Following Professor Marcia Langton, AO’s 2024 visit to MacRob, Professor Langton spent time with a group of students in discussion, recommending further reading to help understand Indigenous Australian culture, history, and politics.
With assistance from the event organiser, Ms Deborah Cordingley, the library was able to purchase the majority of these resources for the collection, and was able to share them with students and staff from Term 1. Here is a link to those resources for those who are interested. All are excellent reading choices for both Reconciliation Week, and beyond.
Expanding resources through community support.
Since the start of Term 1, we have added roughly 600 items to the catalogue, many of these requests from students.
We continue with our revitalisation of the non-fiction library collection. Various areas of the collection have been weeded of outdated books, and allocated new spine labels to create ease of locating and less complicated Dewey Call Numbers.
The process is slow as there are so many resources to work our way through, however, the goal is to update the resources to represent the current study designs and make the library collections as easy as possible for students to find what they need and borrow without issue. We are organising to work with other departments in the school to update collections relevant to their areas of speciality and will keep everyone updated.
Taken from feedback from a student survey, we have refurbished our politics section, cleaning out and purchasing new, updated resources to keep everyone informed. This has been done with the help and recommendations of Global Politics teacher, Mr. James Desmond.
Author Talk: Ann Liang.
On May 13th at lunchtime, best-selling author of Young Adult novels, Ann Liang, came to talk to the students. Khim O and Natalie W in Year 12 did a Q&A with Ann. The audience of staff and students asked questions, and students lined up to get their own books signed and photos taken with Ann.
Ann discussed her writing process, her characters, and related well to the students. She is only 25 and has four published books already, with more on the way, was Dux of her school in 2017 (Korowa Anglican Girls’ Grammar) and achieved a 50 in VCE Literature.
Ann completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne. Hopefully we can organise to have Ann talk again at MacRob in the future.
