School Captain Update | Starting Term 2, 2025
Compassion: Reaching Hearts at Mac.Rob.
The start of Term 2 marks the beginning of a new chapter and focus for the school - Reaching Hearts. This vision is all about empathy, kindness and reaching out to those around you, showing kindness so that everyone feels heard and valued.
It also calls for empathy towards the broader community, recognising the challenges others face and taking meaningful steps to make a difference. Equally important is practicing kindness towards yourself - prioritising your mental health and well-being, and embracing self-compassion as you navigate challenges and celebrate achievements. Together, these acts of care and understanding create a ripple effect of positivity and of connection.
To drive this message home, we’d like to recall an excerpt from our whole school assembly speech:
Let’s be honest - Term 2 is long. The days are colder, the nights are darker, and sometimes the motivation runs a little thin. So here’s your reminder for the term ahead: Check in with your friends. Take breaks when you need to. Drink water. Get some sun. Be gentle with yourself.
You don’t need to do it all, all at once.
Cause arms are to hug with, minds are to dream with and hearts are to love with.
We’re proud of our culture of excellence — but let’s not forget: Excellence isn’t about being the best. It’s about doing your best.
Half way through term 2 and we’ve already seen the Mac.Rob community embrace this vision and optimistic outlook with open arms. From the amazing turn out at Lap of the Lake, to every house supporting each other at House Athletics, to seeing everyone reach out and collaborate to contribute to make Mac.Rob’s IDAHOBIT celebrations the best we’ve ever seen.

As Captains, we’ve aimed to promote little moments of compassion through our own ‘positive mindset’ initiative, where students can pick up little motivational quotes to keep or give to others, as well as implementing compliment note trains in Connect, led by the Connect Captains.
