Library Update | What’s New in November.

What’s New in the Library.

Term 4 began with the farewell of Year 12s; the final two weeks of their classes and our library contributions as part of the Mac.Rob community with the signing of dresses, conversations of gratitude and appreciation, laughter and questions about their themed dress-ups, and final loans and returns of resources for their exams.

In between, Years 9, 10 and 11 still come in and borrow, book requests come in from students and staff, we organise purchasing of new books, deliveries arrive, binding of notes into booklets is prioritised for the Year 12 Maths Methods exam, booklists are organised for 2026, dictionaries are borrowed for English, and school life flows on as normal for all other facets of this community.

Amongst our many book displays in the library space, Halloween is the current themed display being promoted. A selection of new and current collection resources makes up the display, which includes recommendations by us!

Jane Harrison Incursion & Author Talk.

In the first week of Term 4, well-known author and playwright, Jane Harrison, came to Mac.Rob to do two talks. The first was to the Year 11s about her play, Stolen, which is being studied by the 11s. A small group of Sacre Coeur students and their teacher also attended.

At lunchtime, Jane spoke to an open audience of staff and students, discussing Stolen, and new things she is working on that will be out soon. Below is a reflection from some of the Year 11s who were lucky enough to participate in this fantastic session with Jane!

_____

This year, the Year 11 cohort has had the pleasure of studying the powerful play Stolen, which explores the deep intergenerational trauma experienced by the Stolen Generations as a result of the Assimilation Policy of the 1910s. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with the play’s award-winning author, playwright, and researcher, Jane Harrison, through both a Year 11 Q&A session and a lunchtime Q&A session open to the entire school community.

These discussions allowed us to develop a much deeper appreciation of the stories and emotions behind Stolen, and helped us understand how the play reflects real experiences and moments in Australia’s history. Jane shared her writing process, how she chose the stories and scenes to include, and why the messages in Stolen continue to matter so much today.

As hosts, we gained a real sense of how much effort and teamwork go into planning and running events like these, from researching and crafting thoughtful questions to making sure everything flowed smoothly during the sessions. As participants, we were struck by Jane’s generosity and openness in sharing her insights. Her reflections encouraged us to think more deeply about Indigenous identity and the role of truth-telling in understanding the past. Overall, it was an inspiring and eye-opening experience that helped us see the connection between what we study in class and the wider world around us.
