School Captain Update | Mac.Rob Week Reflection.

We would like to start off with a big shoutout to everyone who participated in Mac.Rob Week! Thank you so much for engaging so positively with every activity prepared; we were overjoyed to see the level of infectious energy and enthusiasm across the week. With that said, we would also like to acknowledge the momentous efforts of every Connect Captain and our wonderful Middle School Captains, Hannah and Dumini, in ensuring that every event ran smoothly.

With the overarching goal of increasing student awareness of Mac.Rob’s history, culture, students, and staff, while strengthening community connection, Mac.Rob Week saw the whole student body engage to develop their own mastery of self through entertaining community based activities.

Each day of the week had an activity that linked to our overarching goal. “Mystical Magical Mac.Robbian Monday” saw students race to complete a school-wide “Fairy” hunt, learning fun facts about each Middle School Connect Captain along the way.

“2025 Tuesday” was a day to honour Mac.Rob’s long history, the 120th anniversary of the Continuation School from which Mac.Rob was formed, as well as Sir MacPherson Robertson’s birthday. We reflected on his generosity, his passion for education, and for providing opportunities for young people. Students enjoyed one of his marvellous creations, Freddo Frogs, while learning about the history of Mac.Rob through “A Journey Through The Archives” escape room, involving questions that required searching through a real archive of Mac.Rob history. A big thank-you to the Mac.Rob Communications Manager, Mr. Jack Richardson, and the Pallas Leaders, Tiffany and Riitta, for making it possible to explore past editions of the Pallas Magazine for this activity!

“Who’s That Wednesday?” gave students the opportunity to learn more about their Connect Teachers through Pokemon-inspired silhouettes and fun facts scattered around the school for students to identify.

Thanks to the efforts of the Palladians, on “Throwback Thursday” students were able to hear graduate students’ favourite memories of Mac.Rob. Listening to Palladians reflect on their experiences, laughing with them as they recounted their anecdotes, and taking pride in being part of a major community that extends beyond the four Year levels within our school gates gave students the time for reflection on their own time at the school. Thursday also saw the Middle School students participate in a friendly competition as per tradition, with the “MacDominator Family” (Year Nines) taking the Middle School Victory this year, displaying their mastery of trivia in Family Feud.

Finally, “The Film of Us Friday” saw the students wind down with a screening of The Princess and the Frog in the Theatre to celebrate the end of Mac.Rob Week. This week also gave students a chance to get to know our 37 Portfolio Leaders through a personality-aligned Buzzfeed Quiz. The Mac.Rob Week website is still up for anyone who would like to retry any of the minigames, quizzes, or activities on offer!

Throughout the week, there were additional mini initiatives open to students, from opportunities to put into writing their own favourite memories of Mac.Rob, to New York Times inspired Mac.Rob minigames. We are absolutely inundated with gratitude for each and every member of the school community who played a part in making Mac.Rob Week so enjoyable. From the student helpers who volunteered to run bakestalls or set up decorations in the overpass and around the school, to teachers who dedicated themselves to supervising activities, Mac.Rob Week couldn’t have happened without the contributions of everyone involved.

We hope you all had as much fun with Mac.Rob Week as we did planning it!
