Visual Arts at Mac.Rob: June Update.

Year 9 Art Excursion.

Earlier this term, the Year 9 Art elective class had the privilege to visit the Melbourne City Gallery. 9ART toured the exhibition On the Street Where I Live, photographed by the accredited Viva Gibb and curated by Savannah Smith. The experience not only allowed us to view photography from a professional angle, but also inspired us to create our own photographs, incorporating personal experience with camera expertise. This exhibition experience greatly contributed to 9ART’s final assessment of On the Street Where I Go to School, with visible artistic influence from Viva Gibb’s photography.

One of the best parts of the excursion was when Smith talked about Gibb’s life, and you can see this in her work. The everyday life, and the people she lived alongside, was a constant source of inspiration for her, and has motivated us to pay more attention to the people around us, and the little things in our daily lives that make us who we are.

Top Arts Excursion.

The day that our class, 10ART01, went to the Top Arts Exhibition hosted by the NGV, we were given the opportunity to see a collection of beautiful artworks, as well as learn about the meaning behind each piece.

Our class left Mac.Rob at 12:30 pm, taking the tram to Federation Square, where Top Arts was being held. Once we were inside, our belongings were left in a locker room so they wouldn’t be a burden to us throughout the excursion. As we waited outside for the last of our classmates, we met our presenter and the curator of the exhibition, Leah Santilli. We were led to a theatre where Ms. Santilli explained to us how Top Arts worked, and then displayed some of the winning pieces from this year's competition.

We were encouraged to talk about what art pieces we have created ourselves and the themes that they fit into from this year's competition themes. Our class was also told about the application and selection process to get our art into the NGV, which was highly motivating and inspiring for us. It was lovely to see our peers so passionate about art and how interested they all were in not only the final artwork, but the process as well.

This will be an experience that we’ll never forget, and it will continue inspiring our creativity well after the end of our school journey. As a class, we thank Ms. Tobias and Mr. Nguyen for taking the time to bring us to such a wonderful place and organising the day's activities. It wouldn’t have been possible without them!
