Year 11 Camp Reflection.

Last week, from December 1st to 3rd, the Year 11 cohort embarked on a trip to Phillip Island Adventure Resort for their last school camp. Despite the damp weather, no sunrise or sunset was safe from the polaroids and cameras that captured the fun and sometimes chaotic moments we are sure to look back on in years to come. While our arrival at Phillip island was marked with heavy rainfall, a pit stop at San Remos gave everyone the opportunity to get last-minute snacks and touch grass before we were welcomed by the amazing staff at the camp and launched straight into our first activities.

Whether we sailed the skies in high ropes, the twin flying fox and giant swing, raced against each other in the amazing race, canoeing and team rescue or riding the waves at the beach, the first day was really full-on! Despite the rainy weather, no one was put off tumbling in the ocean with surfboards strapped to our legs. While some people were a lot more successful at riding the waves, everyone had an amazing time and the coaches were incredibly patient and helpful.

Of all the fun moments, the trivia night was definitely a highlight! Amidst the group dress ups, general knowledge questions, and intense cup stacking, the Year 11’s were surprised by the teachers’ singing abilities as the learner model was sung to the tune of Golden from Kpop Demon Hunters, and the constitution in the tune of Baby by Justin Bieber; jaws were on the floor.

With surfers heading to showers and swimmers jumping in the pool, every room was bustling with energy, even during the free time. Within cabin groups, friendly board games were set up only to spark heated competition and lost game pieces.

As the skies darkened, the Year 11’s bundled up in their warmest clothes to watch the arrival of hundreds of penguins. With the ocean backlit by the sunset, many tiny dark blue and white creatures were spotted drifting up to shore and waddling towards their homes. But it didn’t end at the beach! Walking the trail and spotting penguins heading to their burrows was truly an unforgettable experience. Spending this special night with friends, classmates and teachers made it one of the core memories of this trip.

As our Year 11 journey came to an end, we took a moment to appreciate the friendships and memories that truly make the Mac.Rob journey special. These memories will continue to light our path ahead, as we commence our final year of high school. And for this, the Year 11 cohort would love to thank everyone who made this happen: the tireless efforts of every teacher and staff member and the camp staff who made us feel so welcome; making this experience one we will cherish as a fond memory for many years to come.
