Design Solutions Annual Prizes Update.
As a designer, the passion for creativity and creating does not stop at the end of the subject: Design & Technology - Design Solutions, especially if you secured a great prize from the generosity of Spotlight and Tui Cordingley. Let’s see the new creations of Tandia B (11I ) and Edmunda L (10K) since winning their prizes.
Winning the Textiles Design Award last year has really helped me boost my creativity. I was fortunate to be able to use the $100 donated by Tui Cordingley to cover the majority of the cost of a Brother Sewing Machine! I'm really thankful and grateful for being able to purchase a fabulous machine as I've been able to transform so many old bits of clothing into something new, such as turning my old school uniform into a reversible Mandarin Collar top. I've also taken thrift clothes and altered them into costumes using my new machine! I turned a princess dress into a Jellyfish Costume for the Swimming Carnival to support the spirit of the Nereids. I also turned an old man's shirt into a corset inspired top for my Theatre Studies Duologue. I'm really grateful to have been chosen for this prize in Year 9. I hope to continue designing and creating more outfits with my Brother Sewing Machine and I hope others will be inspired to work towards this great opportunity in the future too. - Edmunda L (10K)
It has been so wonderful to have a new Brother Sewing Machine, not just because it runs smoother and looks sleeker, but because it's consistent, efficient, and pleasant. I've been able to learn new techniques when sewing and ensure that I'm proud of each piece I make. Unfortunately, the top that I made did not come out the way that I wished - however through this process, I was able to attempt sewing different styles. Experimenting with heavier fabrics such as faux leather and denim helped me go back to the basics, and I was also able to practice installing eyelets with more success. I'm very proud of the clothing that I've created, and I'm grateful to have a new Brother Machine that has allowed my creativity to flourish. - Tandi B (11I)
