Sports At Mac.Rob | February Update

House Swimming

On February 10th, Mac.Rob’s annual House Swimming Carnival started the year off with a huge splash as the students came together for a day of friendly rivalry and celebration. From the lifesavers to the Avatar-themed costumes, both students and teachers were dressed to impress, showcasing Mac.Rob’s vibrant house spirit.

The energy throughout the day, emerging from the house parades and novelties run by the Sports Portfolio, to the buzz in the marshalling room before the swimmers competed, was at an all time high, creating another unforgettable highlight on the school calendar.

We applaud all the students who dived into the pool, from those who have a passion for swimming to others who pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and participated for fun. You all showcased your enthusiasm and bravery that exceeded our expectations!

We would also like to congratulate the 2026 Age Group Champions:

  • 14 Years: Karen J

  • 15 Years: Kate H

  • 16 Years: Weylen T

  • 17 Years: Ashveen K

  • 18 Years: Olivia T

On top of this, we would like to give an honourable mention towards Karen J (Year 9) and Weylen T (Year 10) for setting multiple new school records each:

  • 14 Years Butterfly: Karen J (32.51)

  • 16 Years Butterfly: Weylen T (29.81)

  • 14 Years Breaststroke: Karen J (39.27)

  • 16 Years Breaststroke: Weylen T (36.93)

  • 16y Years Freestyle: Weylen T (27.83)

  • 16-20 100m Freestyle: Weylen T (1.00.93)

Competition in the pool was fierce with all houses being separated by a few points. However, the trophy was given to Nereids, who came through securing their second House Swimming win in a row!

We would like to thank everyone for making the day run smoothly and, ultimately, a great success! With lively energy both in the pool and in the stands, Mac.Rob came together as a community to celebrate every win, reminding us that House Swimming is a day beyond competition, and one that leaves us with that feeling knowing an everlasting memory has been created.

Inter-School Sports

This month, our students represented the school with pride and determination at the annual Inter-School sport competitions. Across the different sports, our teams demonstrated resilience, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship. From the cricket pitch to the tennis courts, it was inspiring to see students challenge themselves and compete for our school.

Senior Cricket

The Senior Cricket team represented the school with great enthusiasm and determination even as the sun was scorching hot! In the first innings, the opposing team won the toss and elected to bowl. There was excellent batting from our team, with a couple of 4’s and 6’s and some sneaky runs. During the second innings, Mac.Rob showed great skills in fielding and bowling.

There was a fall of a few wickets from catches and runouts within the first 5 overs! Although the team did not progress to the next round, there was excellent sportsmanship and strong team work demonstrated, whilst enjoying the spirit of the day.

Intermediate Cricket

Recently I had the pleasure of captaining the Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School intermediate cricket team when we competed against Mentone Girls’ Secondary College in an inter school sports match. After winning the toss, Mentone elected to bowl first. They bowled and fielded well, keeping us down to a chaseable score of 3/79. Going into the second innings, we were bowling. Our team really dug deep and worked together to get all the mentor batters out for 56 runs, in under 15 overs.

Although Mentone Girls’ put in an amazing effort, in the end Mac.Rob took the win and managed to progress to the next round. Amazing job to all the girls who participated, I can’t wait to play with you all again in Term 4.

Senior Volleyball

On Wednesday, February 11th, the Mac.Rob Senior Volleyball Team played beachside volleyball in Dandenong. Despite it being a day after the Swimming Carnival, we were all pumped and ready to jump into action. In the lead up to the day, we practiced long and hard, including lunchtime and afterschool training which helped to get to know our team better and further develop our skills. It was great to see some new faces and the resurfacement of the Mac.Rob chants!

Both teams showed their strong volleyball skills with ease, from service aces to quick hustles. Alongside the versatility, teamwork and perseverance that accompanied each team on court. But what mattered the most was the unity and harmony between both teams as we cheered for each other loudly, demonstrating the strength of our support to the other schools.

While the day didn’t particularly go our way in the end, it didn’t stop the encouragement and Mac.Rob spirit from shining through. We all did an amazing job of covering for each other, communicating and overall contributing to a memorable experience. Even though the chance to advance was just in our reach, we were able to forge friendships and treasure the opportunity to play as a team for Mac.Rob which was such a valuable experience.

Intermediate Volleyball

On February 19th, Mac.Rob’s Intermediate Volleyball Team played thrilling matches in the Beachside division, with B team securing first place and A team progressing to the exhilarating grand finals, coming in second. The team would like to thank Nemoto Sensei and Ms.Pride for their spectacular coaching and commitment to the teams!

The B team participated in five thrilling and enjoyable matches, winning all of them and becoming the “undefeated champions” of the day. We had an incredible combination of Year 10s and Year 9s, with our team captain, Bree, as Libero, excellent digs from Weylen and Tika (Aikantika), awesome sets from Annabelle, Phoebe, and Eva, and some great attacks from Chloe and Hannah. Over the day our team excelled in not only gameplay, but sportsmanship, kindness, and team spirit, often coming together to chant the Mac.Rob sports day chant, and even coming up with our own.

Meanwhile, A team enjoyed a packed day of 4 matches, with Year 9s and 10s collaborating to achieve amazing scores in the first 3 matches, winning with 2 straight sets in each game. The solid leadership of our Captain, Chelsea, impeccable sets by Alina and Kristy, matched with the perfect passes by Melby and Meghna, and incredible spikes and serves by Theo (Theodora) and Adele led to a day the team enjoyed, bonding over the game and practice!

Mac.Rob’s classic sports days are forever a core memory in the hearts of athletes across year levels and the team can’t wait for more volleyball in the future.

Senior Lawn Balls

The senior lawn bowls team had an amazing day out, filled with joy and company. We had a great time competing against the various other school teams and came home with some victories and a few losses. All in all, team spirit was high and the sun was shining, which made for an excellent time in the summer. As a team, our lawn bowls skills improved tremendously during the day and we were all able to finish with smiles on our faces.

Intermediate Lawn Balls

On February 19th, Mac.Rob’s Lawn Bowl Team made their way to the Hampton Lawn Bowl Club for a relaxed and social day out in the summer sun. We played against schools like Cheltenham, Elwood, MHS and Albert Park, and Mac.Rob A came close to making it into the finals, unfortunately missing out on the crucial deciding point. Regardless, it was all in good fun, and we had the chance to bond with the other teams, cheering each other on good bowls and laughing together when the ball went completely off-course.

Both teams played so well and truly embodied our school value of growth by giving it their all on the day, even with no previous experience. Having the volunteers from the club help with tips and encouragement made all the difference as well. A huge thank you to Ms. Toohey and Ms. Al Baiiaty for supporting us on the day!

Senior Tennis

The senior tennis team had much fun in their first round of many more matches to come, competing against various other schools. It was a hot day, but it was all laughter and smiles as we cheered on our team to an easy victory. We enjoyed ourselves both off court and on court, making new friends and taking on tough opponents. As we finished our games, all we could talk about was how excited we were to win the next stage too!
